Cultural drive · Ontario
Canada's warmest growing season, one tasting room at a time.
Overview
Southern Ontario holds Canada's most concentrated wine country and its southernmost mainland point, and a single unhurried weekend links them.
Begin in Niagara-on-the-Lake, work west through the Twenty Valley benchlands beneath the escarpment, then follow the Lake Erie north shore through Port Dover and Long Point to Leamington and Point Pelee National Park. Roughly 380 km as an estimate.
Point Pelee is one of North America's great birding sites, with an intense spring migration in May and a monarch butterfly gathering in September. Shuttle operations, boardwalk access and tip conditions change with the season and water levels — check Parks Canada's current conditions before visiting.
Plan a designated driver or a licensed tour if you intend to taste. Ontario's impaired-driving thresholds are strict and enforcement in wine country is routine.
