Camping in Manitoba

Camping in Manitoba

Manitoba, by campfire light.

Manitoba's camping centres on lakes — the boreal shield around Riding Mountain, the beach culture at Grand Beach and the polar bear country up in Churchill.

Insider tips

Camp it like a local.

Calls that change a Manitoba trip — from which loop to ask for, to the weather window everyone else misses.

  • 01Riding Mountain's lakeside loops sell out; Wasagaming Loop 4 is the local pick.
  • 02Whiteshell's backcountry canoe sites are nearly always available — Caddy Lake circuits are the classic.
  • 03Lake Manitoba mosquitos in June can be biblical. Wait for July or bring a screen room.
  • 04Grand Beach West (reservable) vs East (first-come) — locals know East.

Season by season

When to camp Manitoba.

Spring

Quiet loops, runoff trails, last-of-season deals before the summer rush.

Summer

Long days, full reservations, the warmest swims and the biggest skies.

Fall

Colour, fewer bugs, cooler nights and the best photography light of the year.

Winter

Hot-tents, snowshoes, aurora, hot springs — for the prepared.
