Major international hubs
Pearson (YYZ), Vancouver (YVR), Montréal-Trudeau (YUL), and Calgary (YYC) handle 70% of international arrivals. All four offer US preclearance, lounges across alliances, and rapid transit links into the city.
- YYZ: UP Express train to downtown in 25 min, $12.35 CAD.
- YVR: Canada Line SkyTrain to downtown in 25 min, $9.45 CAD.
- YUL: 747 Express bus to downtown in 25 – 70 min, $11 CAD.
- YYC: bus or 25-min car ride; no rail link yet.
Regional access points
Ottawa (YOW), Halifax (YHZ), Winnipeg (YWG), Edmonton (YEG), Quebec City (YQB), and St. John's (YYT) make excellent regional bases. Smaller but easy in and out — especially for east-coast and prairie itineraries.
Mountain & resort airports
Kelowna (YLW) is the gateway to Okanagan wine country. Whitehorse (YXY) opens the Yukon. Yellowknife (YZF) is the northern lights hub. The Banff/Calgary axis serves the Rockies, while Halifax and Sydney (YQY) anchor the Maritimes.
Arctic & far-north
Iqaluit (YFB), Inuvik (YEV), and Resolute Bay (YRB) require connections via Yellowknife, Ottawa, or Edmonton. Flights are weather-dependent — build flex days into any northern trip.
Border and preclearance
US-bound travellers clear US Customs in Canada at YYZ, YVR, YUL, YYC, YOW, YWG, YEG, and YHZ. Arrive 90 min earlier and you land in the US as a domestic passenger.
