Overview
The Acadian Coastal Drive traces 740 km of New Brunswick's Northumberland and Chaleur shores through the living heart of Acadie — the deported-and-returned French-speaking population who make the northeast of the province culturally distinct from anywhere else in Canada. Warm-water beaches (this is the warmest saltwater north of Virginia), Kouchibouguac National Park, and the Village Historique Acadien anchor the route.
The southern gateway is Shediac — self-styled 'lobster capital of the world' with the giant photo-op crustacean and Parlee Beach's warm shallow water. North to Bouctouche brings the Pays de la Sagouine (Antonine Maillet's literary Acadie) and the Dune de Bouctouche boardwalk over a 12 km sand spit.
Kouchibouguac National Park is the drive's protected heart — 238 km² of lagoons, salt marshes, and boreal forest, with tent camping right on the beach. North of the park, the Acadian Peninsula runs into the Bay of Chaleur past Miramichi (Loyalist and Irish), Caraquet (Acadian capital, home of the Village Historique Acadien living-history site), and the fishing communities of Shippagan and Lamèque.

- How does this fit with the Cabot Trail?
- The two can be combined — Acadian Coast north to Campbellton, ferry from Caraquet to Miscou, then loop back south via Moncton to catch the ferry to Nova Scotia and the Cabot Trail.
